Post-mortem findingsDr. Susan Phillips conducted an autopsy on August 5, 1994. She identified the cardiac surgical repairs as being intact. The right ventricle was dilated and hypertrophied, with widespread myocardial necrosis. The left ventricle was also hypertrophied, with papillary muscle necrosis. The pathologist suggested that the myocardial necrosis occurred after the cardiac arrest. The autopsy provided no explanation as to why Shalynn's condition deteriorated following surgery.
